Chilar

Chilar is an old white Armenian grape that survives mostly as scattered vines in the high vineyards of Vayots Dzor and is close to disappearing. It has long cylindrical bunches of medium, oval berries, greenish and yellower on the sunny side, with a hardy skin and a thin waxy bloom. It is on the list of varieties permitted for Armenian brandy; Zorah makes a skin-contact white from it in karas.
