Maran Winery

Small family winery — Inferred from indirect evidence

A Vayots Dzor family estate tracing itself to a vineyard planted by settlers from Persia in 1828–1830 and named Marani after Maran, the wife of Sargis. The modern winery was founded by Avag in 1992, when the first Areni wine was released under the Noravank label. The Malahi range, named after the grape's old name, followed in 2018, the year oenologist Rainer Ruettiger joined. A separate project is a high-altitude vineyard near Artabuynk village at 2050–2070 m.
