The second largest region by planted area — about 4,713 ha in 2017. Vineyards sit at 800–1,000 m on brown semi-desert soils; the sum of active temperatures reaches about 4,090, the highest of the five, which is why the grapes ripen so sweet. Rainfall during the growing season is only about 157 mm. Karmrahyut, Kakhet, Mskhali and Garan Dmak lead, and the wineries stand at Taperakan, Ginevet, Eraskh and Mkhchyan.
