Tavush

The north-east of the country and the only one of the five regions with a genuinely humid climate: about 410 mm of rain during the growing season against 157–219 mm elsewhere, a milder winter (January averaging about −0.5 °C) and a cooler summer (July about +21 °C). Vineyards sit at 400–1,000 m on carbonaceous, leached and meadow soils, about 1,345 ha in 2017. Kangun, Lalvari, Banants and Garan Dmak lead and give fresh, aromatic whites. In Soviet years this was one of the republic's most important viticultural districts.
