Vineyards on the map

Dark — the plots where vines grow; the backdrop shows the wine regions shaded by their hectares of vineyards, with the leading grapes in the label. Click a plot for its area and region, click a region for its figures.

The map

Pick a layer, then a place.

Vineyard plots are hand-drawn OpenStreetMap outlines (ODbL): about 3.4 thousand hectares against 15.2 thousand in the country, nearly all of them in the Ararat Valley. So an empty spot means “nobody mapped it”, not “nothing grows here”: Vayots Dzor and Tavush are barely outlined in OpenStreetMap. Region shading, hectares and grape harvest come from the Statistical Committee of Armenia (ArmStatBank), 2025; the grapes in the labels come from the catalogue. Region borders — OpenStreetMap. A region is an administrative unit (marz), not an appellation.

Coordinates and basemap

Where the dots come from, and how precise they are.

  • Exact address

The dot stands on the place itself: the producer or an open source gave the coordinate, and a person checked it. Unchecked points never reach the map.

  • Village point

The yard is not established: the dot stands on the village and is drawn as a ring. When several producers work from one village they share the dot, and its card lists them all.

  • Basemap

OpenStreetMap via OpenFreeMap: the tiles come from their servers, as with any web map. Basemap data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).

  • What is not on the map

Opening hours — we do not collect them, so check with the producer. Visits and tastings are shown only where confirmed; elsewhere it says “not established”.

Layer sources

  • Wineries — coordinates from the producers themselves and from open sources.
  • Vineyards — OpenStreetMap outlines (ODbL); hectares and grape harvest by marz — Statistical Committee of Armenia (ArmStatBank), 2025; marz borders — OpenStreetMap.
